A – double N – O – U – N – C – E – M – E – N – T

Announcement!  Making an announcement always reminds me of summers at overnight camp in Pennsylvania.  As with most overnight camps, announcements were made after a meal when the entire camp was together.  But to keep things fun, whenever an adult said they had an announcement to make, the room would erupt in loud singing and pounding on the tables.  Plates, glasses and flatware would jump on the tables from pounding little hands and if you weren’t singing too, you’d find the noise shattering.

“A – DOUBLE N – O – U – N – C – E – M – E – N – T – S!  Announcements?”

Isn’t it so funny how one word can bring back so many memories?

Anyway, I want to share some exciting news.  We are officially launching our Cub Club with a great offer just in time for the holiday season.  We announced it in our August newsletter so be sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter so you don’t miss any other exciting announcements.

POTD & Client Room Inspiration: Fine Art Canvas Cluster

Congratulations to Elizabeth and Joe!  Their May 7th wedding was so beautiful and such a pleasure to photograph.  In case you missed the post on the old blog, here are some special moments that really made the day theirs.  After the wedding day, take a look how they are enjoying their favorite wedding photographs as art in their home.

The wedding took place at the quaint Mary Gay House in downtown Decatur, GA.  The historical home is quite beautiful – traditional southern architecture and some original furniture from the civil war.

I love the light that flooded into the foyer.  Perfect spot for Elizabeth’s beautiful gown.

But wait, seeing it from outside may be even more beautiful.

Some beautiful portraits of the happy couple.

It was truly stunning to witness their love.  The strength they find in one another and their true partnership is easy to recognize.

Elizabeth’s rings hang close to her heart on a beautiful necklace.

As with all weddings, the kiss at the end of the ceremony is THE moment – emotional, romantic, climactic…. and in this case, adorable too.
Look at one of the flower girls holding up her “camera” to take a picture of me.  Priceless.

Adorable ring bearer and flower girls.

Their lovely exit – complete with bubbles.  There’s something so great
about watching grown adults blow bubbles.  It brings out the kid in all of us.

Talk about a great exit.  I’m not one who oooh’s and ahhh’s over cars but this one is gorgeous.

Love this image.  It looks as if it could have been taken in the 50′s or 60′s – totally retro!
And the reflection of Elizabeth’s best friend (matron-of-honor) with her daughter (flower girl) in the car window is just awesome.

So now the big question… What do they do with all these pictures?  Their wedding album is truly a piece of art but they wanted to be reminded of their wedding day as often as possible.  So we put together not one, not two… but three wall collections for their home.  It helps that they just moved into a new home and have a lot of wall space to work with – a dream come true for me!  I’ll post the second and third collections soon, but this one is my favorite – for right now at least.

This Fine Art Canvas Cluster is so beautiful in their new living room.
The soft yellow walls really make the pink pop and their blue couches highlight the blue in the front steps of the venue (the bottom right image).

The texture and look of a Fine Art Canvas is unmatched – artistic, bold and so unique.

Congratulations Elizabeth and Joe!

And thanks to my second shooter, Josh Lamkin.  Stellar work!

STuFF: Sara’s Totally Fantastic Finds, Episode 30

home-made horchata recipe

In the last few years I’ve come to love cooking and baking.  I’m glad I finally caught the cooking bug because I come from a long line of amazing chefs including my grandmother, mother and brother.  Now in his retirement, my dad has caught it too!  I’ve done some experimenting and had some success but I am still much better off with a great recipe.  I’ve made bread from scratch, chili, enchiladas, lasagna, and too-many-to-name desserts.  And I love looking at the amazing food photography in some of the cookbooks I have stowed on my shelf.  Food photographers have amazing patience and technical skill that I just don’t have.  It’s ok – I can’t be good at everything!  But I do enjoy making delicious food and that sense of accomplishment that comes with my husband Nick’s “mmmm’s!”

Earlier this summer Nick and I visited my parents in Baltimore.  While we were there, we went to a great Mexican restaurant on the east side of the harbor where they had amazing horchata.  Horchata is a Latin American drink made of rice, almonds, cinnamon and sugar.  It’s served cold over ice or simply chilled and is perfect for those who are lactose intolerant (or for those like me who are trying to limit their dairy intake.)  It’s creamy and sweet, and so delicious.  After taking a few sips I told Nick, “I bet I can totally make this at home!”

I found a few recipes and have since learned that there are lots of variances to the recipe.  Some other ingredients include ground cocoa, vanilla or milk.  I haven’t tried any other recipes because this one is so delicious, but if you have, let me know.  I’d love to experiment.  Maybe a little Kahlua or banana liquor would be a nice treat!

Hochata De Almendra

Ingredients:
2/3 cup medium or long grain white rice (raw)
1 1/4 cups almonds, blanched (blanched = run some hot water over them for about 15-20 seconds)
3-inch piece of cinnamon stick (I’ve used ground cinnamon and it works just as well)
2 1/2 cups water (hot)
2 cups water (cold) (or milk)
1 cup sugar

Directions:
1.  In a large bowl combine rice, almonds, cinnamon stick and 2 cups of hot tap water.  Cover and refrigerate overnight.
2.  Pour the mixture into the blender, add sugar and blend on high for several minutes until the mixture is as smooth as possible.  Add up to 1/2 cup of water as needed to blend into gritty mixture.
3.  Strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth, pressing on the solids until only a dryish pulp remains.
4.  Pour into pitcher and add remaining cold water (or milk), taste and sweeten with more sugar if you wish.  Serve over ice.
Yields 4 servings.

Tip:  I feel wasteful throwing out the pulp, so I have soaked it overnight again in an additional 2 cups of hot water.  The flavor is not as intense as the original batch but it does yield more.

Client Room Inspiration – Fine Art Metal Cluster and Collage

More client room inspiration… Seeing the way our clients display their favorite pictures in their homes may just inspire you to decorate your home with your favorite people too.  Jenny and Pete have a beautiful two-story home and now the art in their home reflects their family’s love, laughter and wonder.  The first item is a custom-designed Jazz Collage documenting their day at a local park and a trip to get ice cream.   This Collage of 9 images is printed together and framed as one piece to tell a story of the fun day.

And the other collection is a custom Cluster of prints on Fine Art Metal.  Mom and dad with each of the boys and then the family walking down the sidewalk together are so expressive of the boys’ personalities and the squishy love in this family.  How perfect do they look in the master bedroom suite!

Jenny says, “(The photographs have) transformed a room or two into my official ‘happy place’ – thanks Sara.  The photographs mounted on metal are soooo cool!”  I love that – creating happy places is our newest specialty!

And as if a sale announcement wasn’t great enough… I thought I’d share this adorable play kitchen I found.  I remember playing in my play kitchen as a little girl and loved every little detail included.  This one is “vintage” with a phone, stainless fixtures and rounded edges.

It comes from Joss & Main, an interior design website that I discovered a couple weeks ago.  Everything is discounted and they are great at putting together room designs and selling everything in the room – totally taking the guesswork out of putting it together on your own.
